OVERVIEW
An Andean wedding is in fact a sacred and a spiritual union, connecting up the couple to the Earth, to their ancestors, and to the cosmos through ancient traditions. This ceremony does more than socially contract; it lets one align with the whole natural world and honor all spiritual forces that guide life. According to the Andean cosmovision, we are connected to each other and to Universe. For couples, balance and harmony are sought via rituals that honor elements – Earth, Water, and Fire – ensuring a prosperous future together in alignment with nature’s cycles. It is a prayer for both blessings and for divine protection for the couple’s life.
When a number of couples choose to have an Andean wedding, we and the spiritual world celebrate unconditional love, union, and support. This ceremony strengthens the couple’s bond to their roots.

Itinerary

The Andean marriage ceremony begins with a pick-up from the hotel at 8:00 AM to transport the couple to the Sacred Valley, specifically to Chinchero, where a sacred space is prepared for this profound ritual. Along the journey, you’ll be immersed in the landscapes of the Sacred Valley. We’ll pause for photo opportunities, capturing beautiful moments of the couple for the video and photos included in the experience. The transfer takes about 1 hour, offering a peaceful journey toward the ceremony site.
Upon arrival, the couple will have time to prepare and arrange their wedding attire before entering the sacred space. This Andean marriage ceremony is a union that harmonizes the love between the couple with the sacred energies of nature. The feminine energy of Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the masculine energy of the Apus (sacred mountains) will bless the couple with strength, love, and harmony for an everlasting relationship.
The ceremony begins as the couple enters the center where the Andean Master awaits, ready to conduct a cleansing ritual with sacred plants, water, and incense, preparing them to approach the Mesa (the Andean altar).
The ceremony consists of several key phases:
- COCA Q’AWAY (Coca Reading): The Master reads the couple’s oracle through the coca leaves, allowing them to offer prayers for their future.
- T’IKARIY (Flowering): The couple is blessed with flowers, a symbolic act to help them bloom and work with their energies.
- DESPACHO (Marriage Offering): The Master creates a marriage offering, explaining each step to the couple as they contribute their energies and desires for their future.
- CH’ALLAY (Toast): A sacred toast with AQHA (chicha), shared among the Master, the couple, Pachamama, and the Apus, strengthening mutual respect and unity.
- Exchange of Presents: The couple exchanges meaningful gifts, each symbolizing life and the work ahead for their family.
The ceremony concludes with a photo session and return to Cusco, marking the start of the couple’s blessed journey together.
PREPARATION FOR CEREMONY
It begins with intention. We encourage the couple to reflect deeply on their love, their shared path, and the kind of life they wish to build together. This emotional and spiritual readiness sets the foundation for a conscious union.
One beautiful and essential part of preparation is writing personal vows. These are heartfelt words that express love, commitment, and the couple’s vision for their journey together. Sharing these intentions aloud during the ceremony brings deep meaning and emotional presence to the ritual.

EXTRA INFORMATION
Why does this ceremony hold such deep meaning, and how can it truly impact our lives?
Marriage is a sacred bond in the Andean tradition, more than just two people joining their lives together and being witnessed and also blessed by the forces of nature: Pachamama (Mother Earth), and the Apus (the sacred mountains), and the ancestors too. The couple invites these energies to be part of their particular union by way of prayers as well as offerings, further asking for harmony, for protection, and then for guidance on their very shared path. Since it reminds each of us that love is connected deeply to life, to the land, and to the unseen forces which support each of us, it’s important – love isn’t something separate from the world. “We’re in this together, not just with each other, but with all of life,” it is a way of saying. This ceremony touches on something timeless in the heart, something ancient and beautiful – a love that’s grounded in respect, gratitude, and deep connection and it helps us slow down.
What should you wear for the ceremony?
We do recommend that you wear the ceremonial-style clothing. The clothing should feel quite meaningful as well as comfortable for you. If desired, many pairs decide to don customary Andean clothing for the wedding to pay tribute to the rite’s culture and soul. Beauty in Andean dress includes the handmade details, bright colors, and natural fabrics.
Where can I change into my ceremonial clothing?
You will have the time and also a private space for changing before our arrival at the ceremony site in Chinchero. You have the option to comfortably switch into your ceremonial attire prior to when the ritual begins in the event you are wearing something more casual for the adventure. You shall be assisted through our team and feel fully supported and completely ready as a result of it.

You... read more can tell she is passionate about what she does and wants to provide you with the best experience she can. Our driver skillfully maneuvered the minibus around the narrow roads and somehow made the bumpy roads feel smooth. Honestly, we did a day of touring by ourselves yesterday and were confused, stressed, and hungry. Totally recommend the Pumadventures family. I say family because that's what they are for us from now on. I understood a lot of the Andean life.
