CUSCO CITY

Cusco, the Imperial capital of the Incas

The historical center of Cusco is an architectural treasure trove and home to the ancient Quechua language. You can discover the ancestral Quechua language, which was the main language of the Incas. It is still prevalent in many indigenous communities in the Andes, and you can hear this beautiful language when you go to San Pedro Market. To immerse yourself further, visit the communities of Cusco that have maintained ancient ways of living, such as natural farming and the use of llamas and alpacas, with very little influence from the outside world.

Ancient Gems

This land of legends, spiritual practices and living history offer to a curious traveler numerous opportunities to reveal ancient gems that are here, regardless of the passing time. Cusco is known for its world-famous Inca Trail hike to the glorious Machu Picchu Citadel. Apart from this hike, you can explore Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain), Ausangate, Salkantay, and the breathtaking Humantay Lake. These mountains not only offer you stunning views but also invite you to discover the powerful spirits and allies that they are.

The Inca Empire

The Inca Empire was the largest empire in ancient South America. Here we call this empire Tawantinsuyo, which means “the four regions together”. They built and left behind the most intricate road-networks, which connected every corner of their large territory. Along the different trails through the Andes are many archeological sites and power places that stand out because of their architecture and engineering practices. Today, they are known as the most advanced civilization of their time, the Inca worked with very little tools. They constructed remarkable cities in the most difficult terrains, always high up in the mountains.

Treks

From rookie to pros, every hiker will find something interesting in Cusco. From hidden gems like Huchuy Qosqo to the stunning turquoise waters of Lake Humantay on the Salkantay Trek, each trek offers the chance to admire unique landscapes. To connect more with locals, you are invited to enjoy the Lares Trek, where they still live a truly authentic and ancient lifestyle.

For hikers who would love to challenge themselves, the archeological site of Choquequirao is the best destination. It is a demanding yet rewarding trek through breathtaking landscapes and ancient Incan ruins. This archeological site is thought to be 3 times the size of Machu Picchu and more of it is still being excavated from the dense jungle that surrounds it. It is truly a hidden gem with very few visitors.

The Rainforest

Cusco is surrounded by the spectacular Amazonian rainforest, which covers over two-thirds of Peru. From here you can visit Tambopata jungle, Manu National reserve or Qillabamba jungle and each of these destinations has a unique way to discover wildlife, connect more with nature. Your visit to the jungle will be a great way to experience the most comprehensive bio-diversity in the world.

FAQ'S 2025

Cusco is a destination that you can visit in it year-round. During the dry season, which lasts from May to October, it is recommended to hike and explore certain mountains. Those mountains include Rainbow Mountain, Humantay Lake or Inca Trail. During each rainy season, from each November to each April, it is often advisable to remain prepared for more occasional rain. If you would like to enjoy consistently good weather and travel at a more relaxed pace with considerably fewer crowds, we recommend visiting during the shoulder seasons, from April to May and September to November.

Prior to adventures to high elevations, visit your doctor to make sure that your body is prepared. For easing the acclimatization process, we suggest going to the Sacred Valley upon your actual arrival in Cusco and spending a bit of time there. The Sacred Valley is situated at a lower altitude than is Cusco, and that will help your own body adjust much more smoothly. Another option would be to stay there in Cusco and to then allow yourself a few more extra days. This is all to acclimate prior to the start of the program. Drink plenty of water, have coca tea in the morning, avoid alcohol, along with eat light meals. Prior to taking each medication, be sure to consult with your doctor.

We recommend booking your experience at least 4 – 6 months in advance. If your trip includes Machu Picchu, the Inca Trail, or other high-demand destinations, you may need to be flexible with dates and entrance tickets if you book less than four months in advance. Permits are very limited per day and sell out extremely quickly from May to September. For busy peak months like June and July, we highly recommend booking even earlier to secure your spot.
