What You'll Experience
The word AYAHUASCA is a Quechua term composed of two words: Aya, which means corpse, dead, dead human body, and Huasca, which means rope, cord, braided or twisted wire. Therefore, it has commonly been translated as the line of the dead or the rope of the dead.
Embark on a Journey of Ancestral Ceremonies and Healing with our Master Healers

How to Prepare for Your Ayahuasca Journey
A meaningful experience depends on adequate preparation. We will walk you through the basic dieta (dietary limitations) include abstaining from specific foods, alcohol, and medicines. We also counsel on emotional and mental preparation, therefore enabling you to set goals and arrive fully prepared to embrace the lessons taught by the medicine.
Unhealthy Habits and Patterns
Overcoming addiction and other unhealthy habits is difficult. Therefore, the sacred medicine of ayahuasca is used for healing and detoxification. The goal is for the person to free themselves from all the ties that bind them to that pattern or addiction, while also allowing themselves to forgive and release all the harm these habits have caused.
Anxiety and Fear
As with other ailments such as depression, the sacred medicine of Ayahuasca can help with anxiety by directly addressing the root of the problem and helping the person heal and release the fears that cause it.
Exhaustion
With so much work, worries, and growing problems we face every day, it’s no surprise that many of us suffer from exhaustion. Ayahuasca offers us the opportunity to start fresh, with all our worries and difficulties. Ultimately, it will be like a reboot and will help you feel like you’re starting over with renewed energy.
Social Conditioning
Many of the decisions we make in life are conditioned by our family, friends, or society. Sometimes, to such an extent that we cease to be happy with ourselves. In this case, the benefits of Ayahuasca medicine are applied by helping people find themselves.

Note:
- Women, who have their periods, are pregnant or breast feeding SHOULD REFRAIN.
- People with heart problems SHOULD REFRAIN.
During the Ceremony:
- Judging your visions or emotions: Trust what comes. Master Plants work in mysterious ways.

Ayahuasca Retreat Itinerary
Day 1: Ceremony & Introduction
These ceremonies take place in the evening. Depending on your location, we will pick you up around 4:00 PM and bring you to Chinchero, where our center and the ceremony are held. You will have the option to either spend the night in Chinchero after the ceremony or return to your accommodation in Cusco or the Sacred Valley the same evening. Upon arrival, you will receive an introduction to the medicine and a talk about working with Master Plants. The ceremony itself typically lasts between 3 to 4 hours. During the ceremony, our Ayahuasca Master will guide and support your process with various rituals and sacred icaros (healing songs).
The amount of medicine given to each participant is carefully determined based on their energy level and mental strength – it is not a standard dose for everyone, but rather tailored to individual needs. After the ceremony, we will transport you back to your location.

She provided excellent and informative information everywhere we went and was excited to share his culture and experiences with us. You can tell she is passionate about what she does and wants to provide you with the best experience she can. Our driver skillfully maneuvered the minibus around the narrow roads and somehow made the bumpy roads feel smooth. Honestly, we did a day of touring by ourselves yesterday and were confused, stressed, and hungry. Totally recommend the Pumadventures family. I say family because that's what they are for us from now on. I understood a lot of the Andean life. Experience of a life time!!!Posted on Nathan WVerified Amazing, a must do!!! I was pleased to have shared this time with Pumadventures.Highly recommended.Posted on jlo7117Verified Experience of a Lifetime Our trip to Peru was one of my favorite travel experiences and I attribute it to Revi and Nellie of Puma Adventures. We became part of their family, and they became part of ours. They are loving, kind, welcoming, incredibly knowledgable, and filled with warmth. Every day was so well planned and thought-through. We travelled as a group of two families, 4 adults and 4 children ages 10,11,12,13). We learned so much about the Incan culture, and at each site, there was a spiritual and meaningful component, so that each of us experienced deep gratitude and personal reflection. Each day was action packed- from ATV's to zip lining, horse back rides through the mountains to learning from their sweet relatives about traditional weaving techniques. This was a trip of a lifetime and we feel so lucky to have had this opportunity. We are well-experienced world travelers and usually explore on our own. This is the type of trip that a tour guide changes everything because learning about the history and rich symbolism of each site provides a much richer understanding. Our children in particular, have a profound understanding and respect for the Incan civilization and have gained a new consciousness for their own spiritual path. There is so much more to Peru than just Machu Picchu, and we are so grateful to have been shown some of the special sites that we may never have found on our own. We cannot say enough good things about Puma Adventures and feel so honored to have become part of their family. It was an experience of a lifetime.Posted on Jeanettemc19Verified Andean knowledge and spirituality made fun and meaningful. FAQs
What makes an ayahuasca Cusco experience unique compared to the Amazon jungle?
This is a great query that gets to the core of our work. Though the Amazon is Ayahuasca's holy birthplace, experiencing it in Cusco provides a strikingly different but equally strong energy. The Andes' big mountain spirits, the Apus, welcome you here. This establishes a grounding, solid, and protective energy for your travels. Incorporating ceremonies like coca leaf readings or Pachamama (Mother Earth) offerings, our ayahuasca ritual in Cusco sometimes combines traditional Amazonian practices with Andean knowledge.
This one-of-a-kind combination offers a vessel of great spiritual power, so facilitating the integration of Ayahuasca's celestial visions with the profound, fundamental energy of the earth. Many think the more crisp, high-altitude energy of Cusco aids in negotiating the depths of the drug with more awareness and focus.
How do I choose a safe and authentic ayahuasca retreat in Peru?
The definition of any real retreat and our top concern is your safety. To guarantee a genuinely secure and transforming ayahuasca trip in Peru, particularly in Cusco, you must search for certain important markers. Experienced Maestros or Maestras, frequently from Shipibo or Q'ero ancestry, who have devoted their lives to a demanding route of instruction and dietas, lead first authentic centers. Second, ceremonies' group sizes have to be small and cozy.
This helps the shaman to give individual attention and keep a powerful, protective energetic containment for all. At last, a really responsible center will provide devoted integration assistance following your events and conduct a thorough medical screening procedure. Never select a retreat that makes great claims or stresses you; the actual path is one of modesty, respect, and deep concern for every participant.
What can I truly expect from a traditional ayahuasca ceremony in Cusco?
Stepping into a sacred, eternal realm is like entering an ayahuasca ceremony in Cusco. Usually conducted at night in a darkened room or maloka, the ritual aims to assist you concentrate inward. Prayer and the cleansing smoke of mapacho (sacred tobacco) will mark the beginning of our Maestro's opening of the area. You will drink the medication, which tastes earthy and strong after setting your goal. The Maestro starts to hum the icaros—sacred melodies that are the language of the plant spirits—as the medicine kicks in.
These compositions steer the voyage, remove bad energies, and help one to negotiate the visionary worlds. Deep insights, emotional discharge, physical expulsion (vomiting, regarded as a strong cleanse), and a great feeling of oneness with the cosmos could come on. To make sure you feel held and secure throughout the whole process, our facilitators are always on hand to provide silent support.
What kind of preparation is essential before I begin my ayahuasca Cusco journey?
The dieta, which prepares the person for the rite, is as vital as the rite itself. It shows great regard for your own body and spirit as well as for the medication. We want you to cleanse your body at least one to two weeks before your arrival at our ayahuasca workshop in Peru. This entails a bodily purification: giving up pork, alcohol, spicy foods, caffeine, and too much salt and sugar. The mental and spiritual preparation is just as crucial.
We advise abstaining from sexual activity, restricting your exposure to violent or negative news, and centering your energy inward. Meditation, quiet contemplation, and clearly defining your healing goal are all possible during this time. Coming with a clean body and a humble, open heart lets the medicine work with you on a considerably deeper and more profound level.
Is post-ceremony integration support included in your ayahuasca retreat packages?
Totally. For us, the event marks only the start of the healing path. The great insights and lessons from Ayahuasca can vanish like a distant dream without adequate integration. True change comes when you integrate those realizations into the fabric of your everyday life. That is why every one of our Peru packages for ayahuasca retreats comprises a planned integration program.
This entails circles shared the morning following each ceremony, in which you may process your experience in a secure and encouraging group context. We also offer resources and advice on journaling, meditation, and individual contact with our instructors. Our goal is to arm you with the tools you need to continue that healing, not just to provide a strong ayahuasca ritual in Cusco. establishing long-lasting good changes in your life long after you leave the holy mountains of Cusco.
