VISIT CHINCHERO. INTRODUCTION TO MAMA COCA AND THE ORACLE

Today, we head to Chinchero, known as the “Hometown of the Rainbow.” This small Andean village, set high in the plains with breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley, is renowned for its traditional weaving. As we walk through the village, we’ll meet skilled artisans, learn about the ancient weaving techniques passed down for generations, and have a chance to bring home some beautiful handmade pieces. We’ll spend time with masters who will introduce us to Mama Coca, a revered plant spirit in Andean culture that connects people to wisdom and the spiritual world.

In a heartfelt ceremony to honor Pachamama, Mother Earth, we’ll make a small offering and reflect on the harmony between nature and our lives, feeling inspired to carry this sense of gratitude and respect with us long after we leave.

QUILLARUMIYOQ & WACHUMA

After breakfast, we will travel from Sacred Valley and cross the broad Anta Valley. In this quintessential agricultural region, we see small villages of adobe houses with thatched or red-tiled roofs, fields of grain, and herds of cattle. Leaving the main road, we will visit the Incan archaeological site of Quillarumiyoc, also known as the Temple of the Moon. This religious center contains walls, buildings, fountains, and its centerpiece, the Moonstone, a limestone boulder with a bas-relief of the moon found only here. At Quillarumiyoc, several ancient Inca trails are in excellent walking condition. We will explore the Quillarumiyoc caves, where the Incas carved and captured their representative knowledge of the ancestral spiritual ideology. Continuing the visit, we will explore the temple of the Quillarumiyoc water priest, featuring polygonal imperial Inca architecture and a mini-waterfall where we will cleanse, purify, and free the mind, putting it in a state of relaxation. The Quillarumiyoc Moon Temple is shaped like a crescent, containing the staggering sign of three levels representing the Inca trilogy. It is oriented towards the dawn to observe the solar projections, functioning as an astronomical and spiritual calendar by emanating feminine energy.

Today, we also have our first optional opportunity to work with San Pedro (Wachuma). San Pedro is a powerful and sacred – yet gentle – “teacher and healer” plant traditionally used to heal the heart in times of extreme pain and emotional hurt. It is important to work with this medicine as part of a sacred ceremony and with the protection of the ancestral spirits.

Continue to Sacred Valley in the afternoon.

After a restful night, we’re ready to explore the spiritual significance of the coca leaf, revered as a sacred plant in Andean culture. Through ceremonial rituals led by local guides, we’ll learn how coca leaves serve as a bridge between the material and spiritual worlds, and we’ll gain insights from the ancient practice of coca-leaf divination, or oracles.

In the afternoon you will have an opportunity to rest and relax.

Today, we embark on a journey to the stunning Pitusiray Glacier, nestled in Calca in the Sacred Valley. Starting at 8:00 am, we’ll travel to the village of Huaran, where our trail begins, leading us uphill for about an hour toward Pitusiray and its twin peak, Sawasiray. Surrounded by magnificent views, we’ll take in the powerful beauty of this sacred landscape. Today also offers a unique opportunity to work with San Pedro (Wachuma), a revered and gentle “teacher plant” traditionally used for heart healing. MARAS AND MORAY

Today we explore two incredible Inca sites: Moray and Maras. We start with Moray, a fascinating site where the Incas created circular terraces that were used to experiment with different crops. As we walk through these terraces, you’ll feel the ancient energy of the place and marvel at the cleverness of the Inca people in adapting to the land’s unique climate. After Moray, we make our way to the salt mines of Maras, where we’ll see thousands of small, terraced salt ponds that have been harvested for centuries. The shimmering salt pools against the backdrop of the Andes are a peaceful and awe-inspiring sight, a true testament to the harmony between the people and the land.

After this unforgettable journey, we’ll return to Cusco, carrying with us the rich history and beauty of the Sacred Valley.

SACSAYHUAMAN & FAREWELL DINNER

After breakfast, we’ll begin our day with a visit to Sacsayhuamán, where we’ll stand in awe of this impressive stone-walled complex and uncover the mysteries and legends surrounding its construction. Then, your guide will lead us through a profound rebirth experience in a nearby cave, known as the Cosmic Mother or the Womb of Mother Earth, where we’ll reconnect with the ancient energies of the land. We’ll continue our journey to the Temple of the Moon, followed by a visit to the Temple of the Condor, where we’ll take part in a private Andean Initiation Ceremony to honor and connect with our ancestral lineages. In this sacred space, we’ll explore the teachings of the Inca trilogy—the Puma, Serpent, and Condor—and learn about the Incan elders’ beliefs on parallel dimensions. In the afternoon, we’ll gather for a heartfelt Farewell Dinner, a time to share stories, reflect on our journey, and celebrate the bonds we’ve formed during this sacred adventure.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Cusco is a destination you can visit year-round. During the dry season, which lasts from May to October, it is recommended to hike and explore the mountains, such as Rainbow Mountain, Humantay Lake or Inca Trail. During the rainy season, from November to April, it is advisable to be prepared for occasional rain. If you would like to enjoy good weather and travel at a more relaxed pace with fewer crowds, we recommend visiting during the shoulder seasons, from April to May and September to November.

Before traveling to high altitudes, we highly recommend visiting your family doctor to ensure your body is ready for the journey. To ease the acclimatization process, we suggest going to the Sacred Valley upon your arrival in Cusco and spending some time there. The Sacred Valley is at a lower altitude than Cusco, which will help your body adjust more smoothly. Another option is to stay in Cusco and allow yourself a few extra days to acclimate before the start of your program. Drink plenty of water, have coca tea in the morning, avoid alcohol, and eat light meals. Before taking any medication, consult your doctor.

We recommend booking your experience at least 4 - 6 months in advance. If your trip includes Machu Picchu, the Inca Trail, or other high-demand destinations, you may need to be flexible with dates and entrance tickets if you book less than four months in advance. Permits are very limited per day and sell out extremely quickly from May to September. For busy peak months like June and July, we highly recommend booking even earlier to secure your spot.

The best way to find out if this journey is available and right fit for you is to reach out to our amazing travel experts. They’ll guide you through the selection process and answer any questions you may have.

The ceremony and experience are deeply personal. In the Andes, we speak of "the call of the spirit" and "the call of the plant," meaning that when you are truly ready for the ceremony, you will feel a deep sense of certainty. As our Master Puma says, if it’s not a strong YES, then it’s a NO.

Before your journey, you have the opportunity to connect with our medicine men and women and request a coca leaf reading at www.noqankani.com. Remember, your spirit already knows what it is seeking - you just need to tune in and feel the answer.

Yes, our guides are mostly from Chinchero and speak good English. All of our guides are trained in the Rainbow Lineage tradition for Mesa (Medicine Bundle) and have years of experience working with sacred plants like San Pedro (Wachuma) and/or Ayahuasca.

At Pumadventures, we create special memories for travelers from all over the world.
