Despacho Pachamama offering ceremony in the Sacred Valley of Cusco, Peru

A Sacred Valley spiritual retreat combines ancient ceremony with one of the most powerful landscapes on earth

A Sacred Valley spiritual retreat in Peru is an immersive healing experience that takes place in the Andean valley between Cusco and Machu Picchu — the land the Inca considered the energetic center of their empire. Participants work with experienced Andean shamans through plant medicine ceremonies (Ayahuasca, San Pedro), Earth offerings (Despacho, Pachamama), and ancestral healing practices rooted in the Q’ero and Shipibo traditions.

Unlike wellness retreats in Bali or Costa Rica, a Sacred Valley retreat holds you within a living landscape that has been used for ceremony for over 1,000 years. The Apus — sacred mountain spirits — are not metaphor here. They are named, honored, and present in every ceremony.

“The Sacred Valley is not just a backdrop — it is a participant in the ceremony. The altitude, the mountains, the Urubamba River — they change what becomes possible.”
— Puma Fredy Quispe Singona, Founder & Master Shaman

PumAdventures has been guiding retreats in this valley from its home in Chinchero since 2013. Every ceremony is shaped by three principles: safety (thorough screening, small groups), authenticity (lineage-trained shamans, no staged experiences), and integration (the healing continues after the ceremony ends).

Every ceremony
in the Sacred Valley

Each experience is guided by lineage-trained shamans and adapted to your intention. All ceremonies include preparation guidance, health screening, and post-ceremony integration support.

Why the Sacred Valley is different from any other retreat destination

The Sacred Valley of the Incas — Willka Mayu in Quechua, meaning “Sacred River” — stretches between Cusco and Machu Picchu at an altitude of 2,800 meters. The Inca chose this valley deliberately: its microclimate, water, and energy made it the ceremonial and agricultural center of their civilization.

  • 🏔️

The Apus — Sacred Mountain Spirits

The valley is ringed by named Apus: Salkantay, Ausangate, Pitusiray. In Andean cosmology these are living entities — present in ceremony, invoked by name, and felt by participants regardless of prior belief.

  • 🌿

Plant Medicine in Its Natural Context

Working with Ayahuasca or San Pedro in the landscape where Andean shamanic tradition originated creates a different quality of experience. The medicine has been used in these mountains for over 1,000 years — the land holds that history.

  • 🧭

    Access to Sacred Sites

Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray, Sacsayhuamán, the Temple of the Moon — multi-day retreats include visits to these sites as part of the integration process. Ceremony and sacred site become one journey.

  • ✈️

    Combined with Machu Picchu

No other plant medicine destination in the world lets you combine a deep healing ceremony with a visit to one of Earth’s most extraordinary sacred sites. PumAdventures multi-day retreats include Machu Picchu as part of the spiritual journey.

The Andean Cosmovision

In Andean tradition, the world is organized in three planes — Hanan Pacha (upper world), Kay Pacha (this world), and Ukhu Pacha (lower world) — represented by the condor, puma, and serpent. Ceremonies in the Sacred Valley work consciously with all three, guided by shamans trained in this cosmovision from childhood.

This is not a retreat concept imported to Peru. It is Peru’s own tradition, offered in its homeland by people who were born into it.

Our Home: Chinchero

PumAdventures is based in Chinchero — a village at 3,762 meters, above Cusco and the Sacred Valley, where Quechua is the first language and the weaving tradition stretches back to Inca times. Master Puma Fredy Quispe Singona was born and grew up here. So did the ceremonies.

When you come to PumAdventures, you are not visiting a retreat center that relocated to the Sacred Valley. You are a guest in the place where this tradition lives.

How a Sacred Valley retreat works, step by step

From inquiry to integration, every step is guided. No experience with plant medicine or ceremony is required.

1

Inquire & design your retreat

Contact us by WhatsApp, email, or the inquiry form. We discuss your intentions, experience, health history, and the time you have available. Together we choose the ceremonies and program that fit your needs. There is no pressure to book immediately.

2

Complete health screening

Every participant completes a detailed health questionnaire. This step is non-negotiable and protects your safety. Certain medications (especially SSRIs) and medical conditions are contraindicated with plant medicine — we work with you to find the right path, or refer you to a more appropriate experience.

3

Receive preparation guidance

14 days before your retreat you receive the full dieta guide: dietary restrictions, supplements to avoid, mental and emotional practices, and how to set a clear intention. We are available to answer questions throughout your preparation period.

4

Arrive in Cusco · We handle the rest

We arrange transportation from your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley. You arrive at the ceremony space, meet the shaman and team, and receive a full orientation before the ceremony begins. Our facilitators are present throughout the night.

5

Ceremony & morning integration

The ceremony unfolds over 4–6 hours, guided by icaros (healing songs) and the presence of experienced facilitators. The following morning begins with a group sharing circle where you can speak about what arose. This is where much of the integration begins.

6

Ongoing support after you leave

The work does not end when you return home. We offer follow-up calls, journaling resources, and connection to our ongoing integration community. Many participants describe the weeks after their ceremony as among the most meaningful of their lives — we want to support that.

Last year through Sacred Journeys we met Puma and his family of medicine teachers. Since then we’ve been studying with his school and decided to return this fall. The love, the intention, the teachings are incredible. I can’t recommend going on a trip with Puma Adventures strongly enough. Life-changing.

Frequently asked questions about Sacred Valley spiritual retreats

A Sacred Valley spiritual retreat is an immersive healing experience combining ancestral Andean ceremonies — Ayahuasca, San Pedro (Wachuma), Pachamama offerings, and more — with time in the high-energy landscape between Cusco and Machu Picchu. Guided by experienced local shamans, these retreats support emotional healing, spiritual awakening, and personal transformation within a living ceremonial tradition that has been practiced in this valley for over 1,000 years.
Retreats range from a single day (one ceremony) to 14+ days. PumAdventures offers 1-day ceremonies (Ayahuasca or San Pedro), 2-day Ayahuasca retreats, 5-day group programs (Essence of Cusco, Journey to Cusco), a 10-day Healing Peru program, and 14-day Spiritual Awakening Peru — which combines multiple ceremonies with Machu Picchu, Inca Trail, and Sacred Valley sacred site visits.
Depending on the program chosen, ceremonies may include: Ayahuasca ceremony (nighttime, with icaros and shaman-guided journey), San Pedro / Wachuma ceremony (daytime, heart-centered), Despacho offering to Pachamama (Mother Earth), Coca Leaf reading, Andean initiation ceremony (Puma, Serpent, Condor), and, for couples, an Andean wedding ceremony. All ceremonies include preparation guidance and post-ceremony integration circles.
Both are valid and powerful. The Amazon is Ayahuasca’s birthplace and offers jungle immersion. The Sacred Valley offers the energy of the Andes: mountain spirits (Apus), high altitude, ancient Inca sites, and a different shamanic lineage rooted in Andean rather than Amazonian tradition. Many practitioners describe the Sacred Valley’s energy as more grounding and focusing. Additionally, Cusco offers easier travel logistics, a wider range of accommodations, and the unique ability to combine ceremony with Machu Picchu and Inca Trail.
Yes, when guided by experienced facilitators with proper screening. PumAdventures requires a health screening questionnaire from every participant before confirming any ceremony. Ceremonies are conducted in groups of 8–10 maximum, with experienced facilitators present throughout. First-time participants receive a complete preparation guide and have access to our team for questions before arrival. Certain health conditions and medications — particularly antidepressants — are contraindicated; we discuss this during the inquiry process.
Yes — this is one of PumAdventures’ unique strengths. Our 5-day, 10-day, 11-day, 14-day, and 18-day programs combine Ayahuasca or San Pedro ceremonies with visits to Machu Picchu, the Inca Trail, Rainbow Mountain, Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and other sacred sites. We recommend scheduling ceremony before physical trekking to allow adequate rest and integration time. Single-ceremony participants can also add day tours before or after their ceremony.
PumAdventures conducts ceremonies and retreats 365 days a year. The dry season (May–October) offers clear skies, cooler nights ideal for ceremony, and the best conditions for trekking. The wet season (November–April) brings lush green landscapes, fewer tourists, and often lower prices. The most spiritually significant times in the Andean calendar include Inti Raymi (June solstice) and Pachamama Raymi (August). We offer special programs aligned with these dates.
Prices start at $350 per person for a single 1-day Ayahuasca or San Pedro ceremony. Multi-day retreat programs range from $1,950 (5 days) to $4,390 (14 days), with the longer programs including accommodation, all meals, ceremonies, sacred site entry fees, transportation, and integration support. All prices are transparent with no hidden fees. Contact us for group pricing or custom private retreat packages.

Based in Chinchero, heart of the Sacred Valley

PumAdventures was founded in Chinchero — a Quechua-speaking village at 3,762 meters above sea level, above Cusco and the Sacred Valley, known for its extraordinary Inca ruins and living weaving tradition. This is not a retreat center that chose an exotic location. This is a family business in its own community.

Ceremonies take place in a dedicated ceremonial space in Chinchero. Transportation from Cusco and the Sacred Valley is arranged as part of every retreat. Accommodation options in Cusco, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo are recommended and bookable through us.

Puma adventures making the impossible possible!

“To have custom care on a visit to Peru with sacred sites and shamans that were very knowledgeable, kind, and caring. They took time to find a place that I could go because I am compromised with breathing issues. They were able to make my dreams come true with ease and grace. Beautiful family, beautiful company highly recommend it. They took time to listen and care something. You can’t find often a beautiful place to stay. Their care of making breakfast in the morning and making sure we have hot water throughout the evening was very nice and thoughtful.”

More Than a Tour

“The tour guides made this trip! There was far more to this adventure than the sites, though the sites were powerful. Along with Puma, Rebi and Neliba shared their experiences and led ceremonies snd rituals from the heart. The energies were often palpable. The accommodations were exceptional. Some participants had the energy to find time to enjoy the evenings in social gatherings. If you are highly affected by the energies and experiences you may wish to spend time assimilating.”

The Puma Adventures family is awesome

“We just completed our 6th pilgrimage over 8 years with the Puma Adventure family in February 2026. Again it was an outstanding experience over our 12 day retreat and 3 days up at apu Ausangate. It was a big group we brought this time but the Puma team were prepared for everything and it went flawlessly. Our primary guides of Alfredo, Miguel, and Magally did an amazing job picking us up everyday at the retreat centre and guiding our crew through all the beautiful sites of the Sacred Valley and up into the mountains. Always supported by the kind friendly drivers and the support team of Rebellino, Puma and Jimmy. Always a joy to partner with this beautiful family and know that we are in goods hands as were journey through Peru.”

In deep gratitude for the care, love, support and service you provided us during our Peru pilgrimage. An experience that will forever have a special place in my heart.”

“This was my second trip to visit Peru with Pumadventures and I highly recommend this fantastic group of people. The travel adventure is a perfect mix of experiencing the magical sites Peru has to offer, the guides are very knowledgeable, and each daily excursion offers exquisite and authentic shopping (supporting small business), as well as glorious meals. Shaman Puma and his family also offer a humbling and truly touching insight into their traditions and how to live in ceremony every day. This trip and visit to Peru will change your life!”

Being in the presence of Puma Fredy's awesomeness!

“Being in the presence of Puma Fredy's love and wisdom was the most important thing to me. Also being in the sacred land of Peru, sitting with medicine, meeting the other healers such as Mama Irene and don Sebastian. Listening to the music of Tito de la Rosa. Being with the amazing Shift Network team that include the guides Odon, Nelida and Rebelino, etc. Listening to Ali Maya, Lindsay Wise, Dr. Dan and Dr. Chris. All of this was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life! Also meeting the other like-minded participants who I've made relationships with. And last but not least, learning about myself!!”

Outstanding!!! Pumadventures is the most professional…

“Pumadventures is the most professional tour operating business I’ve ever experienced. Around 100 peoples needs needed to be met and they went above and beyond to look after our needs. They had enough guides to lead smaller groups and these guides were very knowledgeable especially Odon, the leader of my small group. PA is a really close family group and they all made us feel welcomed, safe and they really looked after our well being.”
