Private Pachamanca Experience Itinerary
Private Pachamanca in Chincero Cusco
Our private transport and the Pumadventures team will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley. We will travel to Chinchero, where you will be introduced to the Andean world, immersing yourself in the essence of the mountains, music, and traditional ceremonies.
Our host family will welcome you with a warm infusion of local herbs. We will begin with a ceremony dedicated to Pachamama (Mother Earth), set against the backdrop of the mountains and the natural landscape.
Next, you will experience a “Pachamanca” an authentic culinary tradition and discover the secrets behind one of Peru’s most iconic dishes. You will have the chance to participate in the ancestral preparation of food cooked beneath the earth.
Following this, local weavers will guide you through a hands-on experience in the textile art of Chinchero. The demonstration covers the entire process: preparing sheep or alpaca fiber; dyeing it with natural elements such as molle (Peruvian pepper tree), various flowers, Chillca plants, and cochineal (a natural reddish dye derived from insects that live on cacti); and finally, spinning and weaving on a backstrap loom. Each design carries a deeper, intangible meaning; by the end, you will have learned to decipher at least in part this visual language.
Our adventure concludes with a “Pachamanca” feast featuring various meats, chicken, native potatoes, Andean corn, and fresh salads all cooked underground (*Pachamama*) using heated stones, a technique preserved through generations. During this open-air banquet, you will be accompanied by live, ancestral music.
Finally, we will return you to your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley.
