Andean Wedding Ceremony in Cusco

Andean Wedding Ceremony Overview

More than a symbolic wedding, this is a spiritual union rooted in Andean cosmology — a profound experience that connects two souls with nature, the ancestors, and the universe.

An Andean wedding is in fact a sacred and a spiritual union, connecting up the couple to the Earth, to their ancestors, and to the cosmos through ancient traditions. This ceremony does more than socially contract; it lets one align with the whole natural world and honor all spiritual forces that guide life. For couples, balance and harmony are sought via rituals that honor elements – Earth, Water, and Fire – ensuring a prosperous future together in alignment with nature’s cycles. When a number of couples choose to have an Andean wedding, we and the spiritual world celebrate unconditional love, union, and support. This ceremony strengthens the couple’s bond to their roots.

Preparation for Ceremony

It begins with intention. We encourage the couple to reflect deeply on their love, their shared path, and the kind of life they wish to build together. This emotional and spiritual readiness sets the foundation for a conscious union.

One beautiful and essential part of preparation is writing personal vows. These are heartfelt words that express love, commitment, and the couple’s vision for their journey together. Sharing these intentions aloud during the ceremony brings deep meaning and emotional presence to the ritual.

Why does this ceremony hold such deep meaning?

Marriage is a sacred bond in the Andean tradition, more than just two people joining their lives together. It’s being witnessed and blessed by the forces of nature: Pachamama (Mother Earth), the Apus (sacred mountains), and the ancestors. The couple invites these energies to be part of their union through prayers and offerings, asking for harmony, protection, and guidance on their shared path. It reminds us that love is deeply connected to life, the land, and the unseen forces supporting us—love isn’t separate from the world. It’s a way of saying, “We’re in this together, not just with each other, but with all of life.” This ceremony touches on something timeless, ancient, and beautiful—a love grounded in respect, gratitude, and deep connection, helping us slow down.

What should you wear for the ceremony?

We recommend wearing ceremonial-style clothing that feels meaningful and comfortable. Many couples choose to don customary Andean clothing for the wedding to pay tribute to the rite’s culture and soul. The beauty in Andean dress includes handmade details, bright colors, and natural fabrics.

Where can I change into my ceremonial clothing?

You will have time and a private space for changing before our arrival at the ceremony site in Chinchero. You can comfortably switch into your ceremonial attire before the ritual begins if you are wearing something more casual for the journey. Our team will assist you, ensuring you feel supported and ready.

Itinerary

Andean Wedding Ceremony in Chinchero

  • Route: Hotel → Sacred Valley (Chinchero) → Hotel

The Andean weadding ceremony begins with a pick-up from the hotel at 8:00 AM to transport the couple to the Sacred Valley, specifically to Chinchero, where a sacred space is prepared for this profound ritual. Along the journey, you’ll be immersed in the landscapes of the Sacred Valley. We’ll pause for photo opportunities, capturing beautiful moments of the couple for the video and photos included in the experience. The transfer takes about 1 hour, offering a peaceful journey toward the ceremony site.

Upon arrival, the couple will have time to prepare and arrange their wedding attire before entering the sacred space. This Andean weadding ceremony is a union that harmonizes the love between the couple with the sacred energies of nature. The feminine energy of Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the masculine energy of the Apus (sacred mountains) will bless the couple with strength, love, and harmony for an everlasting relationship.

The ceremony begins as the couple enters the center where the Andean Master awaits, ready to conduct a cleansing ritual with sacred plants, water, and incense, preparing them to approach the Mesa (the Andean altar).

The ceremony consists of several key phases:

* COCA Q’AWAY (Coca Reading): The Master reads the couple’s oracle through the coca leaves, allowing them to offer prayers for their future.

* T’IKARIY (Flowering): The couple is blessed with flowers, a symbolic act to help them bloom and work with their energies.

* DESPACHO (Marriage Offering): The Master creates a marriage offering, explaining each step to the couple as they contribute their energies and desires for their future.

* CH’ALLAY (Toast): A sacred toast with AQHA (chicha), shared among the Master, the couple, Pachamama, and the Apus, strengthening mutual respect and unity.

* Exchange of Presents: The couple exchanges meaningful gifts, each symbolizing life and the work ahead for their family.

The ceremony concludes with a photo session and return to Cusco, marking the start of the couple’s blessed journey together.

More Than a Tour

“The tour guides made this trip! There was far more to this adventure than the sites, though the sites were powerful. Along with Puma, Rebi and Neliba shared their experiences and led ceremonies snd rituals from the heart. The energies were often palpable. The accommodations were exceptional. Some participants had the energy to find time to enjoy the evenings in social gatherings. If you are highly affected by the energies and experiences you may wish to spend time assimilating.”

Life Changing

“Last year through Sacred Journeys, we met Puma and his family of medicine teachers. Since then we've been studying with his school and decided to go back this fall. We arranged our own tour with two of our good friend (they had an Andean wedding). The love, the intention, the teachings are incredible. I can't recommend strongly enough going on a trip with Puma Adventures. Life-changing!”

Being in the presence of Puma Fredy's awesomeness!

“Being in the presence of Puma Fredy's love and wisdom was the most important thing to me. Also being in the sacred land of Peru, sitting with medicine, meeting the other healers such as Mama Irene and don Sebastian. Listening to the music of Tito de la Rosa. Being with the amazing Shift Network team that include the guides Odon, Nelida and Rebelino, etc. Listening to Ali Maya, Lindsay Wise, Dr. Dan and Dr. Chris. All of this was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life! Also meeting the other like-minded participants who I've made relationships with. And last but not least, learning about myself!!”

Outstanding!!! Pumadventures is the most professional…

“Pumadventures is the most professional tour operating business I’ve ever experienced. Around 100 peoples needs needed to be met and they went above and beyond to look after our needs. They had enough guides to lead smaller groups and these guides were very knowledgeable especially Odon, the leader of my small group. PA is a really close family group and they all made us feel welcomed, safe and they really looked after our well being.”
